About this Map

Objectives

The key objective of this map is to make resources on the South Side of Chicago more visible for schools, families, and students. We hope to raise awareness among people and organizations regarding the resources available in their community, and encourage them to reach out to these resources for support, thus allowing for the creation of supportive partnerships and the development of stronger relationships within the community.

Through this map, we hope to promote a needs-based rather than an assets-based approach to community building; we focus on recognizing the actual needs of the community and leveraging the assets which are already in place.

Scope of the Map

This map includes community resources falling under the following key categories:

  • Academic supports
  • Mental health
  • Physical health
  • Parental and guardian support
  • Youth support
  • The map encompasses the geographic areas of:

  • Hyde Park
  • Woodlawn
  • Bronzeville
  • Fuller Park
  • Kenwood
  • Washington Park
  • Surrounding locations in South Chicago
  • Background of the Project

This map was created as a resource for Chicago Public Schools Network 9, for the use of the [number] schools within the network. However, we have further expanded it to make this tool available to the community at large. We hope that by making this data publicly accessible through a simple and easy-to-use interface, a wider audience will be able to benefit from this valuable resource.
